KOMA™

The Korean Martial Arts Association South East Asia – Pacific or ‘ KOMA SEAPAC™ ', was formed in 1988 to correctly promote and control the spread of genuine Korean Martial Arts (as well as the martial sport of TaeKwonDo) in South East Asia, including Malaysia , Singapore , Indonesia , Australia and New Zealand . These traditional Arts are specifically TaeKwonDo ChungDoKwan™ and HapKiDo SungMooKwan™ . KOMA™ encompasses both tribal and civilian Arts as well as Buddhist and Royal Court Arts (KoongJoongMooSool) in addition to the base derivative, HoSinSool or conceptual Self Defense.

Since 1991, HKD SMK, under KOMA (SEAPAC™), was the sole recognized promoter of Traditional Korean Martial arts for the South East Asia- Pacific region, as sanctioned by the Korea KiDoHae (KKH) . It was again sanctioned by both the Korea HapKiDo Federation in 2003, as well as (previously) the Korea HapKiDo Association as the NGB for Malaysia .

These historic steps have come about because of two primary reasons; firstly, the dedication of the Technical Advisor, GrandMaster ( GM ) Julian S. Lim, 8 th Dan HapKiDo ( KHA, KKH ), 8 th Dan TaeKwonDo ( CDK ). Secondly, to correct various rumors of unsatisfactory standards and methods currently found in the promotion of Korean Arts and Sports, e.g. unregistered persons attempting to pose as high Dan ranking HapKiDo and/or Traditional Korean Martial Art Masters while holding no record at all with the correct bodies; incorrect teachings and improper management by persons or groups claiming to promote WTF TaeKwonDo; TaeKwonDo groups claiming to represent Korean Martial Arts instead of the Korean National Sport, fake certification, etc.

KOMA™s and GM Lim's papers of Appointment and Qualification are readily available to all parties interested in attempting to verify their authenticity, as well as to dispel any negative rumors spread by suspect individuals who, for unknown reasons, were refused full or proper recognition of their claimed grades in the Korean Martial Arts and/or sports.

The authority of KOMA™ is strictly applied to those Arts, Styles and Sports that claim to be currently indigenous to South Korea and sanctioned by the Korean Government. It cannot and will not, certify or promote other Arts and Styles that have no direct link or recognition with the Korean Government, e.g. “Korean” Karate, “American” TaeKwonDo, “European” HapKiDo, etc.

KOMA™ is pledged to try and work harmoniously with all other martial arts/styles in the region (e.g. Japanese Karate), and wishes them well. KOMA™ also invites all interested parties who wish to receive quality training and to be fully certified directly by Korean Government recognized international sanctioning bodies , e.g. Korea KiDoHae, Korea HapKiDo Association (de-registered 2002) , Korea TaeKwonDo ChungDoKwan™, KukKiWon, etc.

All sincere enquiries (including verification of current status and/or eligibility) will be handled in the strictest confidence. While our course syllabi and standards are demanding, all graduates, whether individual or group, are assured of the highest quality standards and credentials/certificates.
